The zoo is tucked away just blocks from the beach and is home to more than 290 animals. Lions, tigers, bears, monkeys and macaws are just some of the creatures that inhabit this Gulf Coast oasis. There's also a petting zoo, reptile house, aviary and daily animal shows in the summer.

Escape the pressures of the daily grind with a 90-minute motorcycle ride through scenic south Baldwin County. Registration has open for the inaugural Benefit Ride for the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, which will be held Saturday, November 22, 2008. On Saturday morning at The Hawg Pen on County Road 16, motorcyclists may complete last minute registration from 9:30 a.m. until the ride departs at 11:00 a.m. A $20.00 donation is requested per bike. Participants will then travel to the Flora-Bama before ending at the zoo in Gulf Shores. Finally at the zoo, a door prize raffle will promptly begin and features numerous gift certificates and items that were generously donated by local businesses. Among the larger prizes are a 3-day, 2-night stay at The Gulf Shores Plantation donated by Mandoki Hospitality, Inc., and a coveted collectable from the grand opening of the Eastern Shore Harley-Davidson. Riders will also have the opportunity to tour the zoo at no additional cost. The zoo is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admits the last guest at 3:30. Admission is $10.00 for adults (ages 13-54), $8.00 for seniors (55+), and $7.00 for children (ages 3-12). Children 2 years of age and under are admitted free of charge.
